If you had to pick one program to become certified in to help with tutoring, what program would be most beneficial?
Re: Tutoring
As a parent, I agree with Mary. In addition to the website Mary mentioned, they have a new website for children at www.homegrownchild.com. Didn’t this board used to have a url entry field?
Re: Tutoring
shawna,
how many times do you have to post with your plug for a website, you made your point, save the ads for banners, post when you have something to add to the thread, you must work for the company,
Re: Tutoring
Dear Sam,
I wasn’t plugging anything. I don’t work for anyone. I was trying to be helpful, which is what I thought this board was all about. If one parent can help another with information that the other parent might not have, they should. I see lots of people doing that on this board. Why are you attacking me? You owe me an apology.

Re: Phono-Graphix
I would not want to sign the papers that said I could only ever use anything from what I learned there if I was doing their program and only their program, heaven forfend if I did something in isolation. I wouldn’t want to deal with their attitudes anyway.
Re: Phono-Graphix
?? What does this mean? It doesn’t make any sense the way it is written. I am taking Phono-Graphix training next week and I would like to know what this means, if anything.

Re: Phono-Graphix
Phono-Graphix doesn’t require you to sign papers promising you’ll use their stuff exclusively. It’s just the usual agreement that you won’t infringe on their copyright privileges, etc.
Carmen has a bit of an attitude, as do some PG’ers. It comes from using a program that is better than anything else out there. Unfortunately, it also puts a lot of people off.

Re: Phono-Graphix
Thank you. I did have the agreement faxed to me today when I saw this post. So I realize now that it is pretty straightforward. I do appreciate your answer though. I met Carmen and Jeff three weeks ago when they were being interviewed for a documentary that my sister was working on. They seem very nice. I was surprised at how young they are. I didn’t pick up on an attitude. They agreed to meet me and test my son and tell me about their technique in the middle of filming a major documentary, so I am very appreciative to them.
Re: Phono-Graphix
To Mary:
I trained with Geoff and Carmen and know them pretty well. I get their magazine, and have read both their books. The only ‘attitude’ I’ve ever heard from them is defending teachers’ rights to choose the reading method they use. It’s a tough pill to swallow as a parent whose kid was screwed up by teacher choice (aka Whole Language) but I am also a teacher and I respect and appreciate their position. Where do you get the idea that they have an ‘attitude’? Have you ever even met them?
Re: Phono-Graphix
I trained with Carmen and Geoffrey in Orlando so, yes, I do know them. They are fine people.
Mary
This is the approach that works the fastest for the most children, in my opinion. Website is http://www.readamerica.net
