PEABODY Picture Vocab Test--SCORE??

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My daughter recently scored a 92 on the PPVT. Does this score correlate with her actual iq level and what exactly does this test measure?

A score of 92 is around the 29th percentile and is considered in the low average range. It has been years since I have used that test, but I believe it measures receptive vocabulary. In other words, the child is shown a page with 4 pictures and is asked to identify a particular thing. All they have to do is point to the picture. It is a language test and will not necesarily correlate to the full IQ test but it might have some correlation with the verbal IQ.

Part of this post is inaccurate. A standard score of 92 is withing the Average range. A standard score of 90 to 110 is considered Average ( where 75% of the population would score). From a percentile perspective, percentiles between 25 and 75 are considered average. I agree that it may have some correlation with verbal IQ since it measures receptive vocabulary.
