My son made honor roll

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son is 8 and in a special education self contained classroom. He is in third grade. The class mostly focuses on reading, writing and math and other subjects like science and social studies are open on the blackboard learning.

My son got a 96 in math, 95 in language arts and 86 in science and 82 in social studies. There is little bit marked on the inside of the report card. It just says “very good” for homework and classwork and works quietly. I’m not sure what the criteria is for the honor roll. My son is on a first grade reading level.

Anyway, it’s not for me, it’s for him. He works hard and it’s nice the school can acknowledge that. So, I’m a proud parent of a special needs child.

Congratulations! For us, if you get all A’s you’re on the Distinguished HR and for the regular Honor Roll you must have A’s and B’s (but more A’s than B’s). I hope your son continues to work hard and keeps a positive attitude about school. My son is in HS and has struggled with grades for so long that his attitude and self-esteem are not so good. I thought the school knew what was best for him, and it wasn’t until 8th grade that I figured out that they didn’t, and he’s been in special ed since 2nd grade.
