I don’t want to take their full program during the year. I was basically just interested doing the summer session, which costs $5,900.
Re: Is Landmark College worth the price?
I’m sorry that I took so long to reply to this.
Anyway, I don’t think my problems are severe enough to warrant the unaffordable cost of their summer session.
I applied there before and was accepted. I applied with the distinct hope of being able to get enough aid to reduce the cost. They offered a need based scholarship that was generous, but it didn’t reduce the remaining amount enough. The remaining amount would’ve still cost the equivolent of an ivy league school. They were also rude (in my mind) when I informed them that I couldn’t attend because of a lack of funds. They never sent a letter saying that they were sorry that I couldn’t attend, and they never returned my phone call when I told the head of admissions that I couldn’t enroll.
I’ve heard wonderful things about the school and have talked to students that go there and have great things to say about it. But through my observations and experience they are quick to give you the cold shoulder if you can’t come up with the cash!
I guess ones only hope for being able to attend is to be born into wealth, win the lotto, have rich relatives or know what proper channels to go through to find grants and scholarships.
Is Landmark College worth the price?
hmmm No you bring up an interesting and relevant point. i can not promise you or anyone anything especially not in this crap heap economy.
But… My family has a long history of funding scholarships at various univsities… We don’t fund one at Landmark. And to my thinking and i have to run it by some people, we *should* as i am adhd and dyslexic. my 2 uncles on dad’s side are atleast mildly dyslexic and atleast my dad has ADHD. And then there is my cousin who is presently attending Landmark for speach issues.
We have always held education sacrosanct and i don’t know you can’t say if i can convince them to fund such a scholarship at this time or not, but i can atleast have a chat so that even if it is never possible for you atleast someone out there maybe who can’t afford it even with what they offer in financial aide can succeed in going there. (I don’t know you i don’t know if it would be right for you what i am sort of thinking of or if it wouldn’t.) But as we all have LD in my family why don’t we set up some sort of something at a school such as Landmark? Why didn’t we think or i think of this sooner?
I have heard good things about Landmark also. I think though that they have a high population with LD and those with ld often need some special assistance. I have not done a detailed study of Landmark so i don’t know but i think it might be a very small school. And likely only so large as far as facculty goes. And people might also wear several hats? in that those who work in the office may just be students or those in charge of mailing letters may just be students??? Working in the mail room? Maybe the letter got lost int he mail? maybe they are all so busy dealing with all those rich LD kids that they just haven’t got time when they should to do the polite thing? I don’t know. I am not making any excuses for anyone i am just…. throwing out possible thoughts on the matter.
Also, what goes into educating many of their severely ld studeents may mean alot more professor time etc so the cost may be higher too i really really don’t iknow just tossing out ideas…. But yeh, education that is best for everyone should be affordable for everyone. It really blows donkey balls when it isn’t. And the cold shoulder for whatever reason it is given always sux. Also they have been around for a while oftent he spirit something is started in corrupts over time and though the education quality may or may not deteriorate the institutional ‘goals’ may corrupt or change as well?
My cousin is very very lucky she comes froma fairly wealthy family as am i. Not everyone is so lucky. I feel very strongly about spreading that luck around. And i am not alone in that so even if it does nothing for you i will run the thought by some family members so that maybe your experience won’t be in vain atleast and maybe someone who needs it each year or periodically or whatever can get the education best for them no matter what the cost.
I wish you the best of luck. If there is any way i can help you or if you would like me to ask my cousin anything (personally at the moment, i am broke. And ummm can’t loan you a thing moving to Austria sucked me dry as i am a student right now myself.)But if there is anything else i can do for you, those with ld need to stick together and need to do what we can to take care of eachother so just let me know. ok?
Good luck! i hope you can find something just as good and much less over priced (which i have always suspected that it is.)
My cousin just started there. She has some rather severe and super serious speach issues. I am fairlyy certain that so far anyway, for her the cost is worth it. (I would pay double that though if i were her mother’s kid just to get away *anywhere* away, the further away the better!) I think she may feel roughly the same. So for her it is worth it. But is it worth it for the right reasons? I don’t know for sure… But if you like i can shoot her an email and ask.
