The Listening Program

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a 9 year old daughter with Sensory Integration Disorder, S/L processing problems and we just dicovered the auditory processing problems. We have done OT for the SIDS and just started S/L therapy. Our therapist suggested the TLP. Has anyone had any experience with this? It is $2500 (ouch!), so I would like to hear from anyone who has tried this and if you thought it was beneficial. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tess

Yes, we used it when my daughter was that age. It was definitely beneficial. Her auditory processing improved quite a bit and she no longer needed an FM system in the classroom after going through the program.

We us TLP in our public school run special education program. I feel it does help students be more successful in auditory programs like Fast ForWord and phonemic awareness skills for reading (we use LiPS). Check to see if your public school district provides it. It will save you $$. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. My daughter only processes thru one ear. Her reading is actually going okay but she can’t understand conversations when she is in a room with more than I person talking. She plays with only one friend at a time and always stays to the back of a group. She says she wishes she could understand her friends. Do you think TLP would help with this? Anyone else experiencing any of this? The school does not provide TLP.

Yes, TLP would help with this. It helps to balance the auditory system and that sounds like what she needs.

Some people are saying TLP is about $500. I think this is without the headphones that vibrate. Are these important? Her therapist says they are and the therapist cost is $1000. Can it be done without the therapy and is it as effective? Has anyone tried it w/o the therapist?

We did it without any “vibrating” headphones. You just need a high quality set that cover the ears. The only thing we did with the therapist was to send in tracking information. All else was done at home. I think we paid about $450 for the program and another $80 - 90 for the headphones. (That was also 7 years ago.)
