I am a mother to an eight year old son who was just diagnosed with severe CAPD and dyslexia. He failed Kindergarten, repeated 1st grade, and is now in the second grade and only reading at the lower 1st grade level (he should be in 3rd grade). He is very intelligent and is a visual learner.
The audiologist who diagnosed the CAPD said he was the worst case she has seen in her 35 years of service. She recommended the Lindamood-Bell program. A SLP diagnosed my child with dyslexia and suggested he also has CAPD (she is not trained to diagnose CAPD). She also suggested the Lindamood-Bell program.
What I am tying to find out is does he need to tackle the CAPD aspect first before starting on any reading program. The program for CAPD is the Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing. The program for the reading is Lindamood-Bell LiPS program or The Herman Method.
Thanks…any info is much appreciated.
