Orton Gillingham tutor in Los Angeles and Ventura County

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am one of a small number of trained and qualified Orton-Gillingham tutors working in the Los Angeles and Ventura County area. I received my Orton-Gillingham training from a nationally recognized dyslexia expert and Fellow member of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.

I have worked as a special education English teacher at both the middle and high school levels since 2002 and I have also taught organization, planning and study skills since 2007.

I hold California Special Education Teaching Credential, B.A in Psychology and a Masters in Educational Therapy and Special Education. I am also a member of the Association of Educational Therapists.

I can be reached at [email protected]

Hi, I have read pretty widely and from that I understand that the Orton Gillingham tutoring is the most evidence based and effective program for dyslexia/phonetic reading and spelling problems in students with reading/spelling learning disabilities. If is so effective, why is the training of tutors so limited? I would hope that this effective help could be widely available and accessable through public schools. I would love to know your answer to this. Thanks in advance.
