I am wondering if anyone has experience with your child taking American Sign Language to fulfill the second language requirement for High School graduation. My daughter will be going into 10th grade next year at a new high school in Colorado and I think it will be an issue. I am also wondering about methods of teaching ASL to a child that struggles with reading…. Any thoughts?
ASL is visual. Those I have spoken to, who have dyslexia, have said they excelled in ASL as they found it really applied to many of their strengths.
I had done some research and was going to see if my daughter, who will be entering 9th could take ASL to fulfill the language requirement. Unfortunately, the state ed dept where I live currently does not reconize it as fulfilling the language requirement…sigh.
