Hi! I am Catherine and have a LD

hi! im catherine. i just wanted to introduce myself. i have been trying to sign up on this site forever. but everytime i guess it went to spam and i didnt check spam or even thought to. i have a learning disability. it was called perceptually imparied than auditory processing disorder/ have trouble reading and understanding what im reading/mathematics and now its called specific learning disability. i just graduated high school in 2007. in high school they pushed me through the school and didnt really care i was struggling. i struggled in regular ed and some what of special ed classes. i tried college one class and i think i passed because everything was on computers. i did try reading but it was too hard to do two. i can spell words i know. i dont know big words that everyone else knows. i have a small vocabulary. sometimes i wish i could meet someone else who has a ld and talk to them because i wanna know how they feel every day and stuff. i struggle when people talk to me and i cant understand them. some people think i understand them but i really dont. and when i read i just keep reading pretending i understood what i read but really didnt. or i read the same sentance like 100 times. i dunno just some thing i do. welll thats me in a nutshell.

You may want to consider contacting your state’s chapter of the Learning Disability Association. They have state groups and may be able to direct you to support groups in your area. You can find your state’s listing here:

Hi Catherine!

I also have auditory processing disorder. It sucks! But just know YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I graduated in ‘97 so I’m a little bit older. It’s been a very dissapointing journey though. I’m sure you, like me, were pushed through school and encouraged to college. I had much higher hopes for myself than working in a convenience store (which is what I do now) but I have great friends there and the benefits are good though the pay is min. wage. It’s hard sometimes in my job because I don’t get what people want me to do sometimes, but I pretend I understand and sometimes it works out…. or a bit after the fact it “clicks” and I can go back and fix my mistakes before someone notices. Sometimes I feel pretty dumb though. I just try to have a sense of humor about it… that’s the most important thing is self-confidence. If you can be comfortable with yourself, then other people are more likely to be too. If not - screw em! haha. So what are you doing? Are you still in school or are you working?

Hi everyone,I’ve a learning disability too. Diagnose in 1970 with it. Yea, I agree it’s real hard to have this disability. I didn’t even try to go to collage. I didn’t think I could go because of this disability. My high school didn’t even say anything about collage for me. And I gradate in 1984. My areas of trouble are: math,spelling,reading,understanding. I couldn’t live on my own because I couldn’t get a good paying job. I got married at 29 and then I live out on my own if you want to call it that.? A lot of people in my own family don’t understand this disability. I sometimes think my own mother doesn’t think I’ve a learning disability!

Hi, I’m new to this site. I to Have LD. I’m 41 I was tested at the age of 23 only after barely graduating high school. I have many LDs–Math, Reading comprehension, visual spatial,visual and auditory processing and expressive language. writing too. To this day it’s hard to except. I had tutors but that didn’t work. I really don’t know how I got through college which I didn’t cause I was academically suspended twice. It effects all areas of life. I find it hard to accept and to deal with it. Thank you for listening.

Wow. I’m a few years younger than you but reading your paragraph was similar to reading something I would say. Good to see I’m not alone.
