Re: How does an adult get diagnosed?
I got my answer..about getting tested at no expense for adults. You can go to your states Vocational Rehab and they will schedule you an apt to get tested. I just did and I am waiting for my results.
How does an adult get diagnosed?
Thanks Cheri for posting and the update. It is great to learn that adults can go to vocational rehab to get tested. I wonder if that is the case in all states or just some. It is good information to be able to share as a possible resource for adults wanting to get tested.

Have you checked out your area for psychologists to test people for LD? You could go through universities, they usually do it for cheaper price.
Re: How does an adult get diagnosed?
I was tested by a psychologist because my doctor thought I might have ADD. My IQ results showed a super high verbal level IQ and a completely average math IQ. The disparity along with some of my symptoms—anxiety, depression, trouble with social situations—resulted in my diagnosis.
Re: How does an adult get diagnosed?
I am glad to hear you were successful with the State Vocational Rehabilitation.
I had already been diagnosed by my state VR for ADHD, Anxiety, OCD, and depression. I tried to get my VR to test me for the ACD but was denied, so I went to a recognized hearing & balance center for testing. I learned later unfortunately, that this facility did not take into consideration the previous diagnosis I had just gotten, or the fact that I was an adult so all of their diagnostic testing was calibrated more towards a child, not an adult. Needless to say, the results for ACD was negative.
In my instance, I should have known to ask more questions before agreeing for the test.
Many universities with Speech, Language, and Hearing Departments offer low cost testing services. perhaps you could start there? Best wishes.
