kumon reading?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Please Help! Has anyone used or heard of the kumon reading program. Would this program be suitable for a sixth grade child with visual/spatial difficulties? Thanks!

Kumon math is a kill and drill type of program using worksheets to master the concept. I would presume that the reading program is of a similar venue. I have had a friend whose son went through Kumon to review his reading skills as they were slightly delayed. She liked it but he didn’t have visual or spatial difficulties. I would think something like PACE would be better for this child or vision therapy.

I don’t know about kumon reading but I do know my son has alot of vision
problems including spacing problems, tracking, peception etc. and the
vision therapy that he has gone through has done wonders.

My 9 yr.old son has bipolar disorder, an auditory processing disorder, ocular motor dysfunction , he is in 3rd grade, special ed at school, LD/ED.
Kumon is one of the many things we tried and failed at. It’s a lot of practice and repetition, no progress was seen at the end of 6 months. we failed at the lindamood reading method, too. He is having better luck with vision therapy, he actually reads a little now. God bless and good luck!
