Looking for a reading program

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I teach 7-8th grade LD students. I am looking for a terrific reading program that will help them with skills recovery but is not an elementary program that will make them feel like “babies.” Let me know what you’ve found and how to contact the company.

Carrie,
Check out my program, Great Leaps Reading, at www.greatleaps.com
LD: Research and Practice outlines the data in their latest issue.

I highly recommend the Wilson Language program based out of Massachusetts. Excellent for older students and will not make them feel like babies.

I believe that SRA’s Corrective Reading program may fit the bill, especially if you have large groups. They have two separate programs—one for decoding strategies and the other for comprehension. They are not babyish at all. However, for students who require more of a multisensory type approach, an Orton-Gillingham (O-G) or O-G based program such as Wilson or Lindamood-Bell might work better.
