TARPS test score: What does it mean?

The TAPS-R is the Test of auditory-Perceptual skills-Revised. It has subtests for auditory processing and thinking and reasoning. The Auditory processing for thinking and reasonig section is where a child is asked questions like A knife cuts because it is____? and they have to answer it. It tests their listening skills and how well they answer questions.

I haven’t located the TARPS in any of my speech and language catalogs. If it is the TAPS-R this percentage will translate into an audiotory perceptual age. I don’t have the manuals at my home for the TAPS-R so I can’t accurately interpret this for you.

No, on the top of the test it says Test of Auditory Reasoning and Processing Skills and it was given by a speech therapist. She also had the CELF-PRESCHOOL (Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamenetals-Preschool) test which gave an overall age score of 6.2 (my dd was age 6.4 when this test was given). She demonstrated more problems with expressive language than receptive language on the CLEF test. Which is why I was asking about the TARPS. What exactly does the TARP measure, receptive, expressive, or both? Thanks for your help. I just want to be prepared as much as I can.

We have 100’s of tests at the college I attend but there isn’t one there called the TARPS. In addition, I can’t find the TARPS in any of my SLP catalogues either so I am sorry to say I can’t assist you. The SLP should give you a detailed explanation about the test since she is the one that has it.

My dd who is 6 years and 6 months old, tested at age 5 years 11 months on the TARPS which is the “Test of Auditory Reasoning and Processing Skills”. This puts her at the 22% mark. I have been trying to find out more about this test before the meeting at school next week and would appreciate any information anyone can offer. Thanks.

Our school psychologist gives a test called the Test of Auditory Analysis Skills (TAAS), which is a phonemic awareness test. Could this possibly be what you are referring to?

Hello, A good friend of mine found this information for me and I thought I would share it in case anyone else would need the information.

The Test of Auditory Reasoning and Processing Skills (1993) is a standardized instrument to evaluate how a child understands, interprets (Processing) and draws conclusions and makes inferences (Reasoning) from auditory perceived matter. Assesses a child’s ability to think, understand and reason. The TARPS also assesses what a child has learned and how well a child can solve problems of a social nature.

The TARPS can be administered by speech pathologists, language pathologists, psychologists, resource specialists, educators, teachers, and other professionals. It can be used to assess children age 5 through 14 years of age. Takes 10 - 15 minutes to administer and 5 - 10 minutes to score.
