New York Branch IDA

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I will be speaking for an hour at the NY IDA meeting. I will go into the origins of Great Leaps Reading and present the background of each ideological thread. Great Leaps will also have a booth - materials will not be sold. The booth will be for networking and meeting old friends (young ones too!) This will give me the chance to answer questions, train a bit, and address concerns. The conference, always top knotch, will be March 22 and 23 at the Marriott Marquis. Ken Campbell

This month’s Perspectives from LDA is dedicated to fluency. Marianne Meyer does a nice job of summing up available programs. I was honored Great Leaps was well received. Ken

It is a good program Ken- everyone I have recommended it to has been delighted with it and I loved using it when I was teaching. So- when are you going to wander up to Vermont?

I was in Maine the October before last - Wells Beach. I brought my family with me - our school counted it as attendance for my two boys, Ian and Colin - as educational experience. As I spoke to the group (organized by Candice Bray) I heard people worrying, some even praying it wouldn’t snow. We are from Florida and don’t have much opportunity for the white stuff - about twice a lifetime here in N. Florida.

I told them it appears about 200 or you are praying it won’t snow. I’ve got two little boys from Florida praying it will. Let’s see what kind of God we have in Heaven. It snowed five glorious inches. We drove to Bangor and built the biggest snowman in town. The children of Bangor shared their sleds and snow “stuff” with my boys (hospitable like Southerners) and we had a wonderful time.

Last week I was in Denver. I bought all this great winter gear from LL Bean to be ready for my “Arctic” tour. It was warm. I needed it all this week in Florida - it’s been in the 20’s.

All to say, I’d love to go to New England again. Just waiting for the right conference. I’ll be in Chicago LDA in February and perhaps Illinois State IDA in October. For the most part, I try to stay close to home - working on new projects and enjoying my children (and 1 grandchild).
