I won’t be comfortable medicating until I exhaust all other options. Has anyone tried any natural (drug free) remedies for ADD? Does anyone recommend anything in particular?
I have heard of several “vitamin supplements” that are supposed to help. I was wondering if anyone had any success with them.
I have heard of something called “Flavay” and was wondering if anyone has tried it…it’s basically a multivitamin, but they claim it helps ADD and ADHD.
There are several others that I have heard of as well.
Has anyone tried any? Recommendations? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Absolutely right, there are no miracle cures.
I was just skimming a book in the library tonight, and according to the author, in countries such as Sweden where Ritalin is not used, people use strong coffee instead. Caffeine is a stimulant and the results are similar to other stimulants including Ritalin.
After all, why do adults drink coffee and cola drinks? They wake you up, help you focus, give you a boost of energy for your work …
Yes, Mountain Dew has quite a lot of caffeine — I have heard more than colas, but you should check with nutrition sites. And if you are going for a consistent dose of caffeine, buy brand names and not discount stuff.
Thinking back, I never made the connection, but I drink far too much cola because of my allergies — helps digest — and my daughter took to drinking it too. I tried to keep her to a reasonable limit but as she was underweight it was never a big issue. She is very hyper but managed to learn to sit fairly still and be a top student — maybe the cola was self-medicating for her.
On another tack, the book I was skimming today made great claims for acupuncture for the ADHD child. Again, nobody can promise a miracle cure but if it helps, it helps. A couple of treatments as a trial wouldn’t break the bank. If you go to an acupuncturist, make very very sure that the person is recognized by local governing bodies and is super careful about sterilization, for safety.
