Research about what works for dyslexics

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good websites with research about how to teach dyslexics.

Thanks,

Margo

Every day I work to make reading achievement progress with at-risk students. I am looking at education through the lens of my own little reading camera. If my picture isn’t bright enough, I add a little more light to my subject(s) or open up the aperature of my camera.

I did briefly check out your website last evening. Thanks for the information on the author.

Peace to you!
Susan

Dr Stein and the whole team at Oxford is involved in some really amazing things with regard to how learning relates to both vision and movement. An aside the team has a patent on a deep brain stimulater that stimulates a particular part of the brain involved in movement as a treatment for parkinson’s disease. This gives a summary of his work but you can click on the links and download his research. Also, be aware, in England they use the term dyslexia the way we use the term LD.
If this link doesn’t work plug Prof Stein Oxford into google and it should come up.

I am foreign so I have different perspective on American school system, but I like my husband’s observation that there is usually little teaching happening- the knowledge is “thrown onto students”- if the lucky to catch it- good for them.
