My son has procedural memory problems. Are there any good math resources that I can access that will help with this?
Re: math resources for procedural memory problems
Thanks. His strength is visual. Are you aware of any materials that present math concepts visually?
Re: math resources for procedural memory problems
What grade is your child? I used the Landmark Schools’ Arithmetic workbook to reinforce long division for my LD son; my 4th grader also picked up long division very easily from watching us use the templates in this workbook—very nicely presented.
Re: math resources for procedural memory problems
He is in 7th grade. Are Landmark resources available for this grade? If so, where can they be purchased?
Re: math resources for procedural memory problems
Look on this site “Yellow Pages” and go to state resources, look under Mass. and click on Landmark School; on their own site is a link to publications.
I think the biggest resource would be awareness of this and more attention spent on a: developing conceptual knowledge so steps can be reconstructed logically and b: spending teh extra time and creativity necessary to learn procedures. Find the relative strengths in memory — if they’re visual, use that to develop ways to study the procedrues and understand the concepts.
And until the procedure is known, have it available. Perhaps have it on a card — and gradually cover up steps starting at either the beginning or the end (my guess is beginning would be better).
