Hi
I was wondering if anyone here knows of a book or websites that shows examples of how difficult having a learning disability is. Like sample pages of texts all messed up..etc. I am planning to do a presentation about it and I was hoping that I could use some of that material. Thanks!

Re: Books
In the book The Gift of Dyslexia, it shows several different ways of how the word CAT might appear to a person with dyslexia.
Re: Auditory processing
Glad you liked the site! I believe many LD children have undiagnosed auditory processing disorders. In a few years, I think it will be more common to see children tested for it. Diagnosed early enough, children could be given interventions that might prevent them from later being dyslexic. Hopefully, we’ll see progess in this area soon!

Re: Auditory processing
Janis,
Thanks for the website. It was quite useful for my presentation. Only that I am afraid to read the “Laddle Rat Rotten Hut” story during my presentation, because I do have an auditory processing problem and I am afraid that I might screw it up. =P
Thanks again!

Re: Books
F.A.T. City is a video which simulates what it is like to have a learning disability. Educated adults and some students act as guinea pigs in the world of a child with a learning disability. Very strong message!
Re: Books
on another board someone’s son did a very interesting science project dealing with mirror images. You might want to check it out. it sounds very fitting for your need. I think it was on the adhd board.

Re: Books
There is a terrific video by Rick LeVoie called “Fat City,” produced by PBS. You can often get it through your public library or called your local PBS or look on PBS website. It simulates various LD’s with a classroom of spec ed teachers, and parents and siblings of children with LD’s. It’s a real eye-opener.
Re: Books
You can get a simulation of auditory processing disorders on the site www.ncapd.org.
