I hope you don’t mind my “war stories”. I’ve had lots of students w/ lots of problems learning to spell. I discovered some tricks i hope may help you all.

1. I don’t count words right or wrong. I count each letter 1 or 2 points and count off for each letter missed. This is hardly exact but a student who gets most of the letters right but misses one letter on each word shouldn’t get a 0.

2. I give students words w/ 1, 2, or 3 letters missing and have them fill in the letters.

Progress not perfection is my motto. Students MUST succeed.

Always annoyed me that finally figuring out which vowel pair to use didn’t matter if you forgot the final e in, say, cheese…
