A useful website for anyone with spelling difficulties or teaching someone who finds spelling a problem is Spelling it Right at www.spelling.hemscott.net .
Thanks :)
Always annoyed me that finally figuring out which vowel pair to use didn’t matter if you forgot the final e in, say, cheese…
http://www.resourceroom.net/index has a bunch of stuff on reading and spelling too.
I hope you don’t mind my “war stories”. I’ve had lots of students w/ lots of problems learning to spell. I discovered some tricks i hope may help you all.
1. I don’t count words right or wrong. I count each letter 1 or 2 points and count off for each letter missed. This is hardly exact but a student who gets most of the letters right but misses one letter on each word shouldn’t get a 0.
2. I give students words w/ 1, 2, or 3 letters missing and have them fill in the letters.
Progress not perfection is my motto. Students MUST succeed.
Hope that helps somebody.
